Step 1: Unplug and Remove the Hopper

Always unplug the grinder before cleaning. Twist the bean hopper counterclockwise until the alignment marks line up, then lift it off. Wipe the hopper clean with a dry cloth and set it aside.

Step 2: Remove the Upper Gasket

Remove the upper gasket after taking off the hopper. Lift the rubber gasket out with your fingers, wipe away any coffee residue, and set it aside for reassembly.

Step 3: Remove and Clean the Burr

To Clean Baratza Encore grinders thoroughly, remove the inner burr from the center of the grinding chamber. Pull it straight up without using tools. Brush all surfaces of the burr, paying close attention to the grooves where coffee grounds collect.

Use a toothpick to remove compacted grounds from the burr teeth. Brush the outer burr ring inside the grinder body to remove built-up coffee oils and fine particles.

Step 4: Clean the Grinding Chamber

With the inner burr removed, brush out the entire grinding chamber. Tip the grinder upside down over a trash bin and tap gently to release loose coffee particles.

Use your brush to clean the chamber walls and the area around the outer burr. Clean the grounds bin and the coffee chute to remove stale grounds that can affect flavor.

Step 5: Reassemble and Test

Place the inner burr back into position. It fits in only one direction. Press down until it clicks into place. Replace the upper gasket and reinstall the hopper, aligning the marks.

Plug in the grinder and run a few grams of fresh coffee beans through it. Discard the grounds to remove any remaining particles from cleaning.

Grinder cleaning tablets provide a quick maintenance option between deep cleanings. Run one dose through the grinder using a medium grind setting. Then grind a small amount of fresh coffee beans to remove any remaining tablet residue.
