Experiment #1 - coffee as hair coloring?
On Roaste's Facebook page I saw a link posted about skin and hair care products that were made with coffee. As tempting as they were I just cannot afford them right now. This got me thinking - could I make my own products? I decided to experiment and see. This is the first experiment - using coffee as a hair coloring.
There are multiple ways/methods. I researched and reviewed then came up with the following:
I brewed a very strong pot of coffee. To make a full pot of coffee I normally use 7 scoops for a twelve cup drip coffee maker. For this experiment I used 14 scoops. A lot of coffee! I did not want to waste the "good" stuff on this so I went to the local dollar store and picked up what they had. I also picked up a spray bottle there too.
My hair was clean and dry (washed and dried it this morning). I completely sprayed it down with the coffee. I have long hair so it took a while. I kept combing and spraying trying to make sure I did not miss any hair. In the end I got impatient, stepped in the shower and poured the rest directly on. I waited twenty minutes then rinsed it out.
I did not see a big difference but there was a subtle difference. My hair (a medium auburn brown) was soft and there was a nice shine to it. It smelled good (especially when I was using the hair dryer). Maybe there would be more of a change had I left it on longer but I got impatient (again!) and had to see what it would look like after twenty minutes.
I would say that coffee works better as a rinse/conditioner than as hair coloring. I will probably do this again because I like the way it makes my hair feel. Now to see what other skin and hair care products I can make using coffee...... /sites/all/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif" border="0" title="Cool" alt="Cool" />
