Dolcezza Artisinal Gelato
Gelato?? I know, but keep reading.
We all love fresh coffee. This usually involves ordering from different roasters across the country and then waiting those precious few days for the coffee to arrive at our houses. Then, sometimes the coffee sits the optimal "rest time" or is just brewed immediately until it is used up. When I started getting into this obsession I tried out the local roaster with hopes that I could bypass the online ordering and shipping waits. Sadly, the local roaster around me was very lacking. I purchased "fresh" coffee that didn't bloom, espresso that I ground as fine as possible in my grinders that still ran 2oz in 10 seconds and on a few occasions when I tried to buy some espresso beans they were completely out.
The other alternative was always the local grocery store that sometimes carried fresh and good coffee. This, however, limits me to Ceremony roasters and only every few weeks can I find fresh coffee.
But… I think I've found the local fountain of fresh coffee! Dolcezza is a local chain that serves fantastic gelato. I've always noticed that they had coffee for sale but never gave it a second look. Today, as I was paying for my gelato I took a look at the counter and saw some Intelligentsia, Stumptown (Decaf) and Madcap coffees. Took a look at the roast date and they were all roasted two days ago. This was amazing to me because even when I find fresh coffee at other places it's always buried behind four other bags that were a month from roast. And apparently, they get fresh coffee shipments every week. The price? About the same shipped coffee from the roaster itself. So as I sit here enjoying a nice shot of Black Cat I have a huge smile on my face. Those weeks where I miss time my coffee shipments I now have a go to for fresh coffee. They also have some solid espresso gear behind the bar so next time I'm going to have to double fist my gelato with a cappuccino or straight shot of Black Cat.
If you're in the area, check them out.
